Reflection Task 2B - The Simpsons

I would like to write about The Simpsons. The Simpsons is an American sitcom created by Matt Groening. Matt Groening tries to narrate the middle class American lifestyle in a satirical way. The series is mainly about The Simpsons family, which includes Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. I think the family is created in a genius way. Almost nothing is coincident. For example, Bart derives from the word ‘Brat’. He is also actually Matt Groening himself (he identifies himself with him, and the family with his family). The other members’ name is Matt’s family members’ name. Marge’s mother’s name is Jacqueline Bouvier, which is a reference to John Kennedy’s wife. In the series, the producers always make references. That’s one of the main things I like about The Simpsons. Another thing is, somehow they reflect the family life in a very realistic way for an animated show. It is amazing how a show can be watched by a child, an adult, and an elder with the same pleasure. There are messages and things to learn for everyone. Another interesting thing about the series is, actually the characters were going to be more detailed and professional. Though, by a mistake, they aired the first drafts of the characters. Then, Matt Groening wanted it to stay like that. I find this so cool. It is the longest-running American animated program. There is also The Simpsons movie, which is related to the series. It affected numerous people, program, producer, and even the language. Homer's exclamatory catchphrase ‘D'oh!’ has been adopted into the English language. The Simpsons has a vast spectrum of secondary and tertiary characters, which I find very successful, and appreciate. In the series the time floats, but the characters do not age. Bart refers to that in an episode, by answering a question ’(for) 24 years’ (despite he is a child). There are games, pillows, cups, toys, t-shirts based on this show. Despite all these facts, some people criticise the show and doesn’t find it successful. I disagree with them. Also, you have to see that Homer works in a nuclear factory, so the producers can use environment as a topic easily. The children goes to the elementary school, and there comes the educational topics. Marge is referring to most of the American wifes. All in all, I really appreciate The Simpsons.
